CREATING YOUR OWN MEDIA PROJECTFor this project, you are going to create a product with either a multimedia OR non-multimedia application. This will be an individual project; however, you will be working in collaborative pairs to give and receive constructive criticism prior to completion.
1. You will first need to choose a topic for your project. Scroll over the "Project Directions" tab to see the drop-down box that says "Topics." You will then need to click on your grade level to the right of the Topics tab. 2. Once you have chosen your topic, you will then conference with me to devise a plan for your project. During our conference, we will decide if your topic would be better presented in a multimedia application or non-multimedia application. 3. You will now take a pre-assessment on the application you decided to use. If you chose to use a multimedia application, click on "Multimedia," then "Pre-Assessment." If you chose to use a non-multimedia application, click on "Non-multimedia," then "Pre-Assessment." It is okay if you do not know some of the answers; I want this to be a learning process for you. 4. You are now ready to begin learning more about the type of application you chose. There's a checklist and timeline If you are using a multimedia application for your project, click on the tab "Orientation" under "Multimedia" to become more familiar with the different types and ways you can create this kind of project. If you are using a non-multimedia application for your project, click on the tab "Orientation" under "Non-multimedia" to become more familiar with the different types and ways you can create this kind of project. You will now access everything else for your projects under one of these two tabs. 5. After you have chosen your topic and learned more about the type of application you're going to use, you will need to decide what media(s) you're going to use to create your project. This is the fun part! If you find a different type of tool you would like to use and do not see it, please let me know and we will work something out. I want you to LEARN during this process, so please choose a media you have not used a lot. To learn more about the different kinds of applications you can create, click on "Types of Applications" under your multimedia or non-multimedia tab. 6. After you have decided on a database/type of application, we will need to meet again. This meeting will only take a minute or two. You will need to be prepared to tell me your topic, type of application (multimedia or non-multimedia), and the tool you're going to use to create the project. 7. There are some resources you should definitely explore (and possibly print out) prior to diving into your project head first. For a timeline and project checklist, scroll over "Project Directions" and click on "Timeline and Checklist." This checklist is for the overall project, and the timeline gives you a general idea of how to pace yourself; of course, you will all finish at different times and some parts will take you longer than others. There will be another checklist/rubric more specific under the type of application you choose (multimedia or non-multimedia). I will show you all of these resources during our conference while going over your informal assessment. The remainder of your project directions will be under your specific application category (multimedia or non-multimedia). Don't forget to use your checklists and rubric to help you create your project. The rubric includes the information that will determine your overall grade. If you need any help during this process, try watching tutorials first or ask three before me; this project is intended to create independent learners (but I'll be here along the way, if you need me). Good luck! After you complete your entire project, make sure you get at least three other students to look over it for mistakes and suggestions. Make your changes, then take the post-assessment.

You are doing these projects for several reasons, but the most important reason is to LEARN! There are so many statistics that illustrate the importance of learning different skills in technology; therefore, learning how to create different presentations will only benefit you as a student. See the statistics below in the pictures to become more aware of how important it is to learn computer science and technology skills. I am trying to prepare you for your future!
