Who Am I? |
My name is Sheri Bashlor, and I am in the Education Specialist Degree program in Instructional Technology at Kennesaw State University. I began the program Summer 2015 and will graduate Fall 2016. I graduated from Valdosta State University in 2006 with a BacheIor's degree in Early Childhood Education and in 2007 with a Master's degree in Interrelated Special Education/Early Childhood. Immediately after graduation, I began teaching first grade at Blackshear Elementary School in Pierce County. After three years of teaching first grade, I moved to Midway Elementary School to teach Gifted Education. Midway opened in 2010, and I have been there from the beginning; I enjoyed being apart of the rare experience of opening a brand, new school. I am also currently pursuing my Teacher Leadership Endorsement through the University of Georgia.
I currently teach G.A.T.E. (Gifted and Talented Education) at Midway Elementary School. I am a resource teacher and teach students in first through fifth grade. KSU's reputation in instructional technology led me to the Education Specialist Degree program in Instructional Technology. I plan to continue with my education by pursuing my doctoral degree in Instructional Technology at KSU as well. DIY Project InformationStandards Addressed |
This project was designed to teach students how to create multimedia and non-multimedia presentations. Since I am a resource gifted teacher, students are expected to create presentations on information they have learned in their regular classrooms. Prior to the Milestones Assessment, students present their projects to their regular classes for a review. In addition to the Georgia Standards, ITSE Standards were addressed as well and can be found by clicking on the ITSE Standards button.

Gifted Standard 1: Gifted students will develop and practice creative thinking and creative problem-solving skills with a variety of complex topics within the area of study.
Gifted Standard 2: Gifted students will develop and practice critical thinking and logical problem-solving skills in the pertinent academic area.
Gifted Standard 3: Gifted students will develop advanced research skills and methods. Curriculum for gifted students for allow for the in-depth learning of self-selected topics within the area of study.
Gifted Standard 4: Gifted students will develop advanced communication skills. Curriculum for gifted students should encourage the use of new techniques, materials, and formats in the development of products that will be shared with real audiences.

Suggestions for Implementation & Modifications
In my gifted resource classroom, my curriculum is different than that of a classroom teacher; I completely recognize that fact. However, I do think students could create these types of presentations in the regular classroom as well. This would be a great way to differentiate for the higher and gifted students in your classroom. Once they learn how to use these tools, they will automatically become a resource for the other students. I highly suggest using Galileo in your classroom as well as Britannica Elementary for research purposes. It's an awesome resource for both students and teachers and includes read-aloud for students who are auditory learners and/or not as strong in reading.
